Project Site Location
The Super Madi Hydroelectric Project (SMHP) is located in Madi rural municipality, Kaski District, Gandaki Province, Nepal. The geographical project boundaries lie between latitude 28° 19′ 02″ N to 28° 21′ 39″ N and longitude 84° 04′ 45″ E to 84° 08′ 34″ E. The project area can be accessed from Kathmandu-Pokhara-Bijaypur Khola-Sabi-Tangtin Village. From Tangtin village, which is in the middle of the project area, Headworks are approximately 8 km. The major components of the project lie on the left bank of the river.
The project site is about 228.8 km from Kathmandu .The road to the Project area is black topped from Pokhara (Mahendra Pul) to Bijaypur Khola (about 6 km). The road from Bijaypur Khola with an elevation of about 844 m amsl climbs up to the Kavre Danda to an elevation of about 1117 m amsl. The road has continuous down grade from Kavre Danda to Lamakhet which is at an elevation of about 873 m amsl. From Lamakhet, the road follows the right bank of Madi River and reaches to Sabi (Headworks area of Upper Madi project) with mild grade. The road from Bijaypur Khola to Sabi is about 10 km gravelled road.

The road to the project area is black topped from Pokhara to Kahu Khola Bazaar. The road from Kahu Khola to Bijaypur Khola (about 3 km long) is all weather road (partially black topped). The road from Bijaypur Khola with an elevation of about 844m amsl climbs up to the Kavre Danda to an elevation of 1117 m amsl. The road has continuous down grade from Kavre Danda to Lamakhet which is approximately at an elevation of 873 m amsl. From Lamakhet, the road follows the right bank of Madi River and reaches to Chasu (Headworks area of Upper Madi project) with mild grade. The road up to Chasu has now been gravelled and maintained by the Upper Madi Hydroelectric Plant.
From Chasu, a seasonal road runs along the left bank of Madi River to Tangtin village which has been constructed by the local people and needs to be upgraded. As per hearsay of local people, the construction of permanent Bridge at Chasu has been panned by the GoN (for which the Contractor has also been selected). With little maintenance work this road can serve as all seasonal road to the Project area. The road from Pokhara to Tangtin village is about 30 km and can be reached in about 1.5 hrs. From Tangtin village, new access road needs to be constructed towards Headworks site, adit site and powerhouse site.
Another route to reach headworks area is from Kavre Danda to Sikles village and towards Madkyu Confluence which is a seasonal road and maintained by the Madkyu Khola Hydroelectric Project. From Madkyu confluence, about 600 m long road needs to be constructed to reach the proposed headworks area.
